You may have noticed an uptick in hiring for behavioral health and psychiatric provider and support staff roles over the past few months. In an effort to meet continued demand for virtual and in-person visits throughout all of our health centers, we’ve significantly grown our team, especially as it relates to psychiatric services.
New Providers
We launched the psychiatric service line in 2021 with a handful of telehealth providers contracted through Ascend. Fast forward to 2023, we have grown to nearly a dozen contracted providers and even the opportunity for in-person visits. Over the past several months, we have almost doubled our appointment capacity and expanded in-person appointment availability to all but one of our health center locations.
By early 2024, we expect to have approximately 30 psychiatric providers on board between NOAH and Ascend providers.
Psychiatry Versus Counseling – What’s the Difference?
Counselors help patients by talking through issues and coaching patients on how to use behavioral tools to improve the way they engage with themselves and others. This treatment can be helpful for making lifestyle changes, coping with grief or loss, working through relationship challenges, and managing stress, anxiety, or depression.
Psychiatric providers use medical treatment, including prescription drugs to treat mental health disorders. Psychiatric treatment is often recommended for patients managing conditions like depression, anxiety, ADHD, PTSD, bipolar disorder, substance use disorder, and others.
The overlap in conditions treated through each of these roles is by design; offering a multitude of paths for wellness through treatment via one or both types of providers.
Who Does What?
Our Psychiatry, Counseling, and Medical providers work hand in hand to determine the best treatment plan for every NOAH patient. Helping to create a seamless transition throughout our integrated care system requires an entire team of individuals including a couple of roles you may not be familiar with:
Behavioral Health Consultant (BHC)
BHCs work in each clinic and are available to support other service lines on-demand when a consultation is recommended.
Behavioral Health Technician (BHT)
BHTs work in-tandem with providers to care for established patients. They interact with patients and work through treatment plans already in place.
