Balance Billing or “Surprise Billing” is an unexpected expense that occurs when a patient receives medical care. There are many situations where the Federal Law protects patients from Balance Billing, such as being treated for an emergency by an out-of-network provider at an in-network hospital or ambulatory surgical center.
