Don’t Get Smished!

NOAH’s Workplace & Public Safety Department has been informed that a rash of smishing has been occurring across the valley. According to Experian, smishing is a kind of fraud similar to phishing, except that it comes in the form of a text message. A smishing text will often contain a fraudulent link that takes victims to a form used to steal their information or an odd request for assistance. Often the person is impersonating a person you know (family member, supervisor, or company leader) and asking you to send money, click a link, or do something else that might allow them to steal your information.

In both examples, these may come from an unknown number or a spoofed number that could represent the actual person’s information. Always call to verify that the person on the other end is who they say they are.

If you are a victim of workplace smishing, please report it to the Workplace & Public Safety Specialist at your location or call Emergency Workplace & Public Safety On-Call 24/7 at 602-786-0679, for further guidance.
