New Leave of Absences + Disability Provider

As NOAH employees now, we have a new provider for any Leave of Absences or Disability Leave that requires time away from your job. NOAH employees will have The Hartford as the Leave of Absence provider going forward.

What is a Leave of Absence?

A leave of absence is a way to document time away from work while your position is held for you, allowing you to return to your same position at the end of your absence. This can include having a baby, needing to care for yourself or a family member for a period of time, or needing to work intermittently because of a medical condition.

Key Terms

  • Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA)

FMLA is job protected time available to all employees after they have been employed for at least one year. After one year of full time employment, you are eligible for up to 12 weeks of time away from work due to your own medical condition or a family member’s, which can be taken as consecutive time or intermittently as needed. FMLA absences are considered excused. FMLA time is approved or denied by The Hartford based on the medical documentation you provide.

When employees are on a Leave of Absence, they are not paid. You may choose to utilize your PTO/PST to be paid while you are on a leave of absence.

  • Disability

If a leave is due to an individuals own medical condition, it may qualify for Short Term Disability payments. The Hartford will determine if a disability qualifies. If it does, employees will receive 60% of their pay for the duration of time in which you are considered disabled. Disability payments are only issued for continuous absences, not intermittent absences. You are not able to supplement your pay with PTO/PST when you are receiving disability payments. If you are out of work due to a disability for more than 6 months, you may qualify for Long Term Disability.

All employees are fully covered by Short Term Disability (STD) and Long Term Disability (LTD) insurance after the first of the month following your 90th day of employment.

If you need to apply for a Leave of Absence, please contact The Hartford utilizing the directions below on how to file a claim.

As always, please reach out to NOAHHR@honorhealth.com if you have any questions or concerns.
