Cultural Beliefs

In any organization, a strong set of cultural beliefs can serve as guiding principles, shaping its values and actions. At NOAH, our cultural beliefs “Stronger Together” and “Be the Change” not only define the work environment, but also inspire and empower employees to uphold NOAH’s mission of serving patients and helping to move our mission forward.

In line with this, we created a video series of “Always Behaviors” that serve as a tool to educate, inspire, and reinforce the importance of embodying our cultural beliefs through consistent and unwavering behaviors.

Employees are expected to exercise good judgment in choosing appropriate business attire for their work and for their schedule of the day.  In areas requiring uniforms, employees will comply with the guidelines governing their department or division.

  • Clinical departments within NOAH may have a designated scrub color that all employees in that department are required to wear.
  • NOAH provides scrub/tunic/cover/gown apparel for the departments that are required to wear them for infection control purposes.
  • Only NOAH-approved logos are to have a dominant appearance on work clothing. While a clothing manufacturer’s emblem is acceptable (small company logo) the display of a complete organization name and/or logo is not acceptable.
  • Employees are required to wear designated identification (ID) badges while on duty and on campus.
  • Employees will not wear excessive fragrances or perfumes, which may be offensive to others or cause allergic reactions.
  • Offensive tattoos must be concealed from view while on duty.
  • Artificial nails are not permitted for direct caregivers.
  • Facial hair must be appropriately groomed at all times to facilitate effective use of any required respiratory protection/mask, including annual fit-testing, as required by job position.
  • Hats and other head coverings, except those issued as part of a uniform, or are part of the individual’s observance of his or her religion, may not be worn.
  • All direct caregivers must wear closed-toed shoes with a closed heel or heel strap.

Stickers

Stickers are awesome! They’re a fun way to express yourself and make the world a colorful place, but they don’t belong on everything, especially on any NOAH-owned equipment like laptops and computers.

Sticky Notes

During a recent HIPAA review of our NOAH health center locations, sticky notes were found being used throughout the clinics. While some notes were handy reminders, many contained sensitive information like patient names, birthdates, MRNs, and even passwords – all posted where patients or other NOAH employees could see them.

Please remember, it is a requirement of HIPAA to protect the privacy of patient health information and even small details jotted down on sticky notes or other papers are in violation.

It is also against NOAH policy and simply not a good idea to store usernames and/or passwords to computers or applications where others can access them. Sticky notes “hidden” under keyboards, in an unlocked drawer, inside notebooks, or other “secret” places do not keep this information secure. If you absolutely must keep usernames or passwords written down, please secure them in a place where only you have access.

Social Determinants of Health

Play Video

80% of what makes up someone’s health is determined by what happens outside of the hospital and health clinic. Of the 80%, the largest segment is made up of the “Social Determinants of Health” or “Socioeconomic Factors”.

Social determinants have a major impact on health outcomes – especially for the most vulnerable. At NOAH, we can not only improve individual and population health but also help advance health equity. After all, health starts in our homes, schools, workplaces, neighborhoods and communities.
